The Rivers State Council of the Nigerian Labour Congress (Rivers NLC) have stated it expects that the new Thirty Thousand Naira Minimum Wage for the state workers will be implemented by January 2020 by the state government.
The Chairperson of Rivers State NLC, Comrade Beatrice Itubo made the demand as the good people of Rivers State awaits the presentation of the 2020 budget by the State Governor, Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike.
The Labour leader stated they’re looking forward that the Governor will make provision for the new salary structure in the 2020 appropriation bill.
Beatrice Itubo said, “It has to be captured. Everybody knows that the minimum wage has been passed, so it has to be captured. If we are not getting it now we should be able to get it from January”.
Beatrice Itubo also reminded the government that the new wages have entered into arrears which should also be captured in the 2020 budget.
Itubo also noted that the template for the new salary structure which they have received has also been forwarded to the state government , adding that they now expects the process for negotiations to commence without further delay.
